Colosseum at Night and Vatican

Tuesday was another lazy day, not doing a whole lot. However, we did go to a point just above Piazza Venezia, overlooking the Forum, where you can see the Colosseum in the distance. One again, it had a been a perfect day and only partly cloudy. With the moon out and the clouds in the sky, Jess and I spent forever trying to get the perfect pictures of the wonderful sight. After fiddling forever with aperture sizes and shutter speeds (well, she was more doing that, I was more just playing with the default options), we finally came up with some awesome pictures!

Wednesday, Jess' last day full day in Roma, we went to the Vatican. I had only been to that part of the city twice, and only saw the Vatican one time from far away, so it was definitely something that I had needed to do, and we're very glad we went! We waited in a pretty long line, although it did move fairly quick, to get into the Vatican Museums. The museum is such a tease, because you see signs for "Cappella Sistina" (Sistine Chapel) at almost every doorway but you walk forever and ever to actually get there. Don't get me wrong, you see a lot of cool things in many different halls, but by the time you get there, you're exhausted! Regardless, you're not supposed to take pictures in the Sistine Chapel, but I could resist stealthy taking a few. Here's the best I got!

After the museum, we made our way back around the wall to see the Piazza di San Pietro (where mass is held every week). It was really awesome to see, and this is when we felt bad about missing Palm Sunday. We then went inside the Basilic di San Pietro and that was really cool, although we both feel that we saw some more impressive basilicas.

Afterwards, we wandered a bit more, and then made our way back to Di Rienzo, the restaurant by the Pantheo for a romantic, mostly candle-lit dinner. It was a perfect ending for the perfect week.

I am so happy that Jess came for a visit! We had so much fun together and it was incredible! It was just what we needed to get through the next 5 weeks that I am gone. We made it through 9 1/2 weeks. 5 is very manageable.
